Anna Sui Fall 2010

The middle of last month marked the beginning of the Fall 2010 Fashion season in New York.

All of the Fashion insiders, buyers, writers, bloggers, celebrities, stylists, writers,  and magazine editors descend upon New York to attend dozens of shows and parties produced by all of the fashion designers that launch their collections in  New York.  After New York, the fashion flock move to  London, Milan and then Paris. Since there are so many shows and trends to report, I have decided to make separate posts for each city, and offer you my picks for the most important jewelry shown on the runways. I utilize as my main source for pictures and information. Definitely go there to see each designers collection in full including videos and details shots on most.

Overall, there was not as much jewelry shown on the designers runways in New York as in seasons past. I really had to seek out the shows that had it, and what I found I loved!  As for the clothing there seem to be 2 distinct trends happening, retro feminism, and cleaned up modernism. The accessories were very minimal, but as the clothes are more simple, they become a strong back drop for amazing jewelry and other accessories.

The two designers that did show jewelry with many of their looks were Ralph Lauren and Anna Sui. Both designers showed collections that had a bohemian vibe and the jewelry definitely matched that mood. Anna Sui is not as well-known as the big brands, but she has an amazing sense of style and always presents incredible prints in unexpected ways.  (see photos above)

My favorite presentation was Vera Wang. Most of the designs were in black but she utilized feathers, sequins and many other textures within her designs to bring them to life on the runway. Many of her models simply had a pile of pearls thrown effortlessly around the neck adding a new dimension to many of her looks. I LOVED IT! There were several other models wearing layers of large glittery jewel encrusted glittery fire-balls, which was another smart look.

Badgley Mischka is best known for their evening wear, and they recently launched a jewelry collection several seasons ago. They were one of the few designers that showed statement necklaces with their evening wear on the runway. I especially liked the necklaces that cascade from the neck down the chest.

Something new and different came from Michael Kors. He reinterpreted an adorned belt as a collar or necklace. Could this spark a new trend or fad?

Lets wait and see. More to come from London, Milan and Paris.

Helen Mirren at the 2010 Oscars

The Oscars is always an exciting event for me. I love seeing the stars dressed in the finest gowns and jewels from around the world.

I think the stars have made choices that seem to be a bit more restrained than in the past. Due to all of the media attention and criticism these stars receive, I definitely believe they are playing it safe. The overall result is very feminine and refined head to toe glamour on the red carpet.

The Jewelry this year, was more refined and elegant than last year at the Oscars. There seems to be more emphasis on Earrings and Bracelets whereas last year, there was a trend in statement necklaces happening, which sparked an overall trend throughout the industry at all levels and price points. All retailers and designers got into that game from Neiman Marcus to Forever 21.

My favorite overall jewelry look was from Carey Mulligan with her long drop linear chandelier style diamond earrings. Her pixie haircut along with her open shoulder gown allow the earrings to make a huge impact! See Below:

Miley Cyrus and Rachel McAdams represented the bold earring trend and often paired the look with some beautiful cuffs and bracelets.

I also love jeweled accents at the shoulder and waist which has been an emerging trend for some time. Whether a brooch is added at the waist as we see on Mariah Carey, or applied to the shoulder as on Sigourney Weaver and Jessica Simpson, this is a fantastic way to add sparkle and glamour to a mono-chromatic look.

These are my overall favorite looks from Oscar night. I think that dramatic earrings with some great statement cuffs or stacked bracelets is THE look right now. Feel free to share any of your favorite Oscar looks!

Mariska Hargitay Stacked Bracelets

I was hoping to have my pics chosen and my post prepared, but I was caught up in Oscar night frenzy in Hollywood!

I attended an Oscar viewing party in Beverly Hills (200 + People) on Sunday, came home exhausted and crashed, then had

to prepare for another event Monday evening.

I am still reviewing photos, internet reports and all of the Oscar recap shows on TV. I plan to have my picks for the most

important Oscar Jewelry trends tomorrow!

In the mean time if any of you have anything to share about the Oscars, feel free to jump in!

More to come! Thanks for your patience.

Hand Painted Portrait Pendants

I fell in love with Lynn Konrad’s designs when I first saw her collection “French at Heart” at the Rosebowl Flea Market several months ago.  I was lucky to stumble upon her much to my delight, last week at the Long Beach Antiques Market.

She has traveled to France many times collecting antique articles of all kinds from Baby and Christening dresses, to artwork, personal accessories and incredible jewelry and vintage components.

Lynn has an incredible talent for mixing antique components such as religious medals, keys, lockets, filligree stampings and findings, with newer components such as freshwater pearls, crystal beads, and interesting chains to create pieces that are truly unique and beautiful.

As most of Lynn’s designs are one of a kind, they are very desireable and coveted pieces  and make unique gifts.

Key pendants and multi charm necklaces featuring keys have performed very well for French at Heart. Thanks to our friends at Tiffany’s (they have been featuring key motif jewelry in their ads for nearly a year) the Key trend has performed very well for designers and retailers alike across the country for several seasons.

I love Lynn’s hand painted portrait necklaces, toggle necklaces that can be converted into  bracelets, filligree earrings and her very whimsical purse charms.

Please visit the French At Heart website for a large selection of jewelry and French Antiques. The events tab on the site contains a calendar of upcoming shows in San Francisco and the LA area.  Lynn can be emailed directly at

Religious Charm Bracelets

Rosary Necklaces

I visited the Long Beach Flea Market and Antiques Fair in Long Beach, California today and was immediately struck by a young man wearing a rosary bead necklace around his neck. (I just saw Justin Combs, P Diddy’s son, wearing one on a TV show just an hour before that).

After walking into the event, I was immediately attracted to a table featuring Rosary Beads, Religious Charm Bracelets and many other Religious articles. The vendor/designer is Creations By Azaria. (

I learned that yes indeed the Rosary Beads and Charm bracelets were selling quite well. I also did see this type of product at other stations within the Flea Market. Creations by Azaria had the largest and most unique selection by far!

In speaking with the proprietress, I learned that many of the Rosaries are of Bohemian Czech Glass and are being created in Bohemia by a very special family. Creations by Azaria is regularly available at the Rosebowl and Long Beach Markets and on ebay creations*by*fortunato.
